Our Thrift Shop is a shining example of one of our most successful ministries. Open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm on Saturdays at the bottom of St. Mark's House, you enter into a friendly atmosphere brimming with fragrant aromas coming from the breakfast / lunch counter. Bargain-shoppers will be hard-pressed to beat the "buck a bag" sales in our shop. Items for sale range from gently-used clothing to houseware odds and ends. If you aren't in the mood for shopping, the chowder and friendly conversation are still worth the visit.

Thrift Shop Ministry

"...love your neighbor as you love yourself."
(Leviticus 19:18)

This would be the Thrift Shop motto if they had one.  Based on principles of Christian love and community, the Thrift Shop serves the community without being pushy or preachy.  The shop is is staffed by a core group of dedicated individuals who have an incredible ammount of energy and enthusiasm for this work.

The money raised from the Thrift Shop is used to send a child who needs financial support (or two if the Thrift Shop has a good year!) to summer Christian Camp for a week at Camp Bement.

Ministry Support
There are a number of ways to support this successful and rewarding ministry:

  • Join the staff on Saturdays.  Staff members usually arrive at 8:30 am to prepare for store opening at 9:00 am.  Store hours are 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
  • If this is too much of a time commitment for you, consider serving as back-up / filler staff member once a month.
  • Join staff on Wednesday afternoons, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm to prepare for Saturday.
  • Donate used clothing, housewares, toys, books that are in good condition by dropping them off at Crocker Hall or at the Thrift Shop on Wednesday or Saturday.
  • Donate soda, decaffeinated ground coffee, tuna, tomato puree, chili beans, hot dogs, etc. for the lunch counter. The Thrift Shop Snack Bar is in need of tuna fish packed in water and canned chicken broth. We would like to thank all of you that have donated food items in the past. If you continue this practice, PLEASE LABEL THEM FOR THE THRIFT SHOP/SNACK BAR In addition, the Thrift Shop is in desperate need of winter clothing items for all people…adults, children. Even household goods are down. The Shop is empty! If you have to clean out your closets yourself, please think about donating to St. Mark’s Thrift Shop…we would appreciate your items. Remember us to your neighbors too! CLOTHING, GOOD, CLEAN, WINTER CLOTHING. THANK YOU. Thanks again, your devoted and thankful Thrift Shop Volunteers
