Healing Prayer

The Healing Prayer Ministry has been a vital part of St. Mark’s Church for over 20 years.
The prayer ministry at St. Mark's is comprised of a group of people who dedicate their time, love and energy to offer prayers for people who desire healing from God.

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results.
(James 5:13-16)

What Is Healing?
Our emotional, spiritual and physical wellness has a profound impact on our sense of well-being, and our ability to live a meaningful life. Many of us struggle with physical illnesses, and also from emotional pain, guilt, resentment and sadness that act as an emotional or spiritual cancer.

Healing is the removal of these conditions of illness. God gave us a powerful tool for healing through prayer, and we can rely on the fact that if we pray in community, God will be present to hear our plea.

What We Believe
We believe that Jesus, who healed many people while he walked this earth, continues to be ever-present, wanting us healthy, whole and in union with Him and with each other. We acknowledge readily that we don't have any answers, and we don't heal anyone. Fortunately, we have a tremendous Advocate in Jesus Christ. Through Him flows the power and grace to bring comfort and heal sickness and pain.

What We Do

  • We listen

  • We love.

  • We pray - to an active, loving God who wants us whole.

What We Don't Do

  • We do not heal - that is God’s work.

  • We do not have any answers - God is in charge here as well.

  • We do not judge.

  • We do not blab or gab - All prayer requests are kept strictly confidential.

How Do I Ask for Prayer?
There are several ways to ask for prayer, and you can choose any one of these based on your needs, and what you are most comfortable with.

  • During the 10:00am service, approach the prayer team at the back of the church during the eucharist with your request. They will pray with you. This usually takes a few minutes and is well-suited for people who have "quick" requests, or just wish to make that extra special connection with God during this time.

  • Our intercessory prayer team prays daily for those who have requested prayers for themselves, family members, or friends. Prayers may be for healing, comfort, help with problems or situations in life (direction, employment, marriage).

  • Some prayer requests respond best to more lengthy, "hands-on" prayer that are better suited to a private appointment with a prayer team. If your prayer request is intensely painful, or chronic - consider requestiong a longer period of prayer, called "soaking prayer."
